Hello everyone, and welcome to another of my reviews. In this article, I’ll review my experience undergoing slimming treatments at Fat Hope.

After Chinese New Year earlier this year, I noticed that I had gained some weight, and chanced upon Fat Hope’s social media advertisements. I was intrigued by their perfect Google rating, and decided to visit them at their Bugis Junction salon. Let’s see how my experience went.

As a first-timer, J – one of the therapists at Fat Hope – went through the slimming options with me. In particular, she highlighted the 360 Thermal Fat Blast (which helps reduce fat) and the Emshape (which helps tone the muscles) treatments.

Fat Hope also happened to have a first-timer 3-session trial package of $398 and $198 for the 360 Thermal Fat Blast and Emshape respectively. I decided to sign up for a 3-session package of the 360 Thermal Fat Blast first – it’s my first time trying a slimming treatment, so I wanted to dip my toes first.

First, J measured my waist size as a baseline reference.

Next, J took a “before” picture of my treatment area (my belly) to provide a visual comparison for the future.

With that done, we got started on the 360 Thermal Fat Blast treatment. Before commencing the “fat freezing”, J first applies a protective layer over my belly to prevent any potential burns or skin allergies to the treatment.

She then applies the suction handpiece over my stomach. The handpiece is quite large, so it easily covers most of my belly. However, J shared that smaller handpieces are also available for smaller body parts (thighs, arms, etc). Commonly known as “fat freezing” or cryolipolysis, the treatment is a non-invasive procedure that helps reduce specific areas of stubborn fat by exposing them to controlled cooling. The device targets and freezes fat cells, causing them to undergo apoptosis (i.e die) without damaging surrounding tissues. The fat cells are then dispelled from the body through its metabolic processes.

The treatment essentially feels like a vacuum cleaner sucking on my stomach. The 360 Thermal Shock Fat-Freezing treatment starts with heat to accelerate the fat loss process, before transitioning into a “freezing” sensation. While it did take some getting used to the suction sensation, I appreciated the non-invasive nature of the treatment as compared to surgical alternatives such as liposuction.

In my subsequent sessions, J shared that customers can opt to target different body parts, so I requested her to target my “love handles” instead. Overall, I found the fat-freezing treatment to be effective, and very bearable (there were times I fell asleep during the treatment). The targeted area(s) will feel a tad sore and red immediately afterwards, but aside from that there’s no downtime, making it a viable lunchtime treatment.

After finishing my 3 sessions of 360 Thermal Fat Blast treatment, I was sufficiently satisfied with the results and was keen on signing a further 10-session package. However, Jace (another of Fat Hope’s therapists) recommended that I opt for the Emshape package instead, despite the Emshape package being significantly cheaper. She said that since I didn’t have a high body fat percentage currently (i.e. I wasn’t overweight), the Emshape treatment would be more appropriate for my needs as it helps tone the abdominal muscles. Naturally, I took Jace up on her suggestion and signed a 10-session package of Emshape instead.

Like the 360 Thermal Fat Blast, EmShape is a non-invasive body contouring treatment with no downtime. It uses high-intensity focused electromagnetic technology to induce muscle contractions and enhance fat metabolism. It can target specific muscle groups (abdomen, buttocks, arms, thighs, etc), making it easier than regular exercise. The contraction strengthens muscles and triggers a metabolic response, improving muscle definition and also reducing fat in the targeted area.

The Emshape applicators alternate between vibrating and pulsing sensations, delivering electromagnetic waves to the target area to trigger muscle contractions. As compared to the 360 Thermal Fat Blast, the Emshape treatment felt substantially more intense. I felt like I was doing a workout, with my abdominals feeling noticeably sore afterwards. Emshape supposedly delivers 20,000 contractions (equivalent to 20,000 crunches) per hour, and the soreness reflects that. It’s not necessarily a downside – if anything, it gave me the sensation of finishing an intense workout, even though all I did was lie on the bed for 40 minutes.

Over 3 months, I went for 3 fat-freezing sessions and 10 Emshape sessions with Fat Hope at a weekly frequency. I would say that there have been substantial improvements: one can see from the before/after photo above that my love handles are smaller, and my abdominals are more defined, with slight v-lines even visible. I also want to point out that I didn’t change my exercise or diet throughout these three months, so the changes can largely be attributed to Fat Hope. Still, it’s important to be realistic – don’t expect 6-packs to magically appear after 1 Emshape session (or even 10) just because an hour of Emshape is supposedly equivalent to doing 20,000 crunches.

Conclusion – so Fat Hope Slimming Treatments “shiok” or not?

I want to emphasize that there’s no magic bullet to achieving fat loss or a 6-pack. If you’re seeking to lose weight, I would encourage viewing the 360 Thermal Fat Blast and Emshape slimming treatments as supplements to your exercise regime and diet. That being said, I can confidently say that the treatments have been effective for me and that I’m satisfied with the results. I’m also pleased to report that I faced no hard-selling at Fat Hope – in fact, I saved money by opting for the Emshape package (instead of fat freezing) based on their advice. The package prices are also transparent and stated upfront, unlike other salons I’ve been to where the sales consultant conjures up an eye-watering number on a paper pad before slashing it as a “one-time offer”. I’m considering returning to Fat Hope for a further 10 sessions of Emshape, this time paired with a new exercise regime and diet – I’ll update this article if that happens.

All about gaining confidence.
