Hello everyone, and welcome to another of my reviews. In this article, I’ll be reviewing my recent RF Microneedling (Sylfirm X) treatment at the local aesthetic clinic Asimont.
I’ve tried a variety of treatments for my acne scarring, such as Q-Switch laser and red light therapy at Dr Plus, as well as Pico laser and Rejuran skinbooster with Gangnam Laser Clinic. Another popular treatment is RF Microneedling, which I decided to try out with Asimont Clinic.
Asimont Clinic – the Brand
Asimont is a relatively new clinic that was founded late last year. It initially carved out a niche in addressing postnatal aesthetic concerns, but now offers a wide variety of aesthetic treatments for a myriad of skin issues.
Situated in Ngee Ann City, the clinic is currently helmed by Dr. Alfred Li, whom a mutual friend (also a doctor) recommended. As such, I decided to seek out Dr. Li specifically when I wanted to try RF Microneedling treatment – let’s see how my experience went.
Asimont Clinic – Sylfirm X RF Microneedling Treatment
Being in the heart of Orchard, I expected Asimont Clinic to be quite atas, and its interiors certainly didn’t disappoint.
The decor was pretty upscale, with a comfortable waiting area. It’s also rather big – probably one of the largest clinics that I’ve been in. As usual, there were a couple of forms that I needed to fill up, before the assistants ushered me to the doctor’s consultation.
I conveyed to Dr. Li that although I’ve done previous aesthetic treatments, I wanted to reduce the appearance of my facial acne scarring further. After examining my face, Dr. Li said that my acne scarring was “mild to moderate”, and greenlighted RF Microneedling as an appropriate treatment option. There are a few RF Microneedling options on the market – Asimont uses Sylfirm X, a dual-wave RF microneedling system that can be used to treat a variety of aesthetic concerns, such as melasma, pigmentation, and vascular lesions.
As its name suggests, RF Microneedling uses two main technologies – radiofrequency and micronedling. Radiofrequency heats up the skin, improving the appearance of scars and wrinkles. It’s generally viewed as safer than lasers. On the other hand, microneedling introduces controlled micro-injuries to the skin. The needles break down the scar tissue, and also promote collagen growth.
Like the skinbooster, the Sylfirm X RF Microneedling was delivered with a handheld device. Unlike the skinbooster however, the needles were significantly less painful – they felt like ant bites. Asimont’s therapists applied a layer of numbing cream on my face beforehand, which resulted in a nearly painless experience. The radiofrequency was very tolerable too, with the device simply feeling warm rather than hot.
I’ve been to quite a few aesthetic clinics by now, with each doctor having a slightly different “vibe”. For Dr. Li, he was a reassuring figure – I felt safe and secure in his hands (literally). In fact, I almost fell asleep, which certainly wasn’t the case with previous aesthetic treatments. I asked him what makes a good aesthetic doctor, and he replied: “One that doesn’t get complacent and consistently strives to improve his skills.” He conveyed that aesthetic work can be repetitive and that it is important not to remain stagnant by attending seminars, reading up on the latest machines and technologies, etc. I could sense his desire to hone his craft, which I found to be admirable in an industry where many are content to rake in money performing relatively simple procedures.
After the treatment, Asimont’s assistants applied a soothing face mask on me, as well as some antiseptic cream. As you can see from the above photo (which was taken almost immediately post-treatment), the main noticeable side effect is slight redness, which dissipated by the next day.
Conclusion – so Asimont Clinic’s Sylfirm X RF Microneedling treatment “shiok” or not?
I really enjoyed the Sylfirm X RF Microneedling treatment. It’s brief (the treatment process was around 20 minutes), and has little side-effects, making it a great lunchtime treatment option. I also have to give props to the Asimont assistants, who called me the next day to check if the redness had quelled. It’s the little touches like these that separate great aesthetic clinics from average ones.
