Hello everyone, and welcome to another of my reviews. In this article, I’ll review the Vesby from the local ergonomic furniture label ErgoTune.
As some of you may know, I recently moved into my new apartment. I knew I wanted my PC work/gaming setup to be the highlight of my new home, and thus reached out to ErgoTune. I’ve previously used the ErgoTune Joobie chair and ErgoTune (then named Everdesk) Max desk, so I was already familiar with the brand’s offerings. ErgoTune relayed to me that they have a new ergonomic chair and standing desk available and kindly sent both to me for review. Let’s first take a look at the ErgoTune Vesby.
ErgoTune Vesby Ergonomic Chair – Review
The new ergonomic chair, Vesby, is billed as ErgoTune’s first in-house chair designed from the ground up.
The first thing I noticed about the Vesby was its luscious curves. The chair looks premium and elegant, a far cry from the boxy silhouette of traditional ergonomic chairs.
The difference between the older Supreme v3 (which I reviewed here) and the Vesby is night and day—the Vesby looks eminently more expensive and upscale. It’s clear that the ErgoTune team has put in great effort in designing a chair that encompasses both form and function.
That being said, the Vesby still uses the same Duraweave hybrid mesh that’s also used on the Joobie and the Supreme v3. It’s scratch-proof and sink-proof, easy to wash, and hypoallergenic (which is a godsend for someone with sensitive skin like me).
More importantly, the Duraweave hybrid mesh is breathable, making it ideal for Singapore’s humid climate. This means no butt sweat marks, even after long hours of seating. And unlike chairs made from PU leather, it also won’t peel off over time.
The Vesby features an upgraded (i.e. “pro”) version of the TriTune 3D headrest found in previous models. In “work” mode, it functions as a headrest when the chair is upright. However, in “play” mode, it actually acts as a neck rest when the chair is reclined.
It is adjustable in three ways (height, depth and angle) and is now wider than ever to better accommodate larger users.
I found the curvature of the headrest to support the back of my nape and my trapezius well, resulting in optimal support.
The backrest is also wider, which again better accommodates larger bodies. In addition, it is slightly curved to “hug” the user for a snugger fit.
The Vesby features ErgoTune’s new SmartFlex Pro Lumbar Support, which now comes with height adjustments for better-tuned lumbar support. It also allows for adjustments to the stiffness, which allows for progressive spinal support. In addition, the curvature is apparently “purposefully designed” to fit the natural curve of our spine, thus alleviating spinal pressure. Lastly, ErgoTune claims that it “auto-adjusts to allow for intelligent posture correction”, but it’s unclear to me what this actually entails.
What I do know is that the Vesby is the most comfortable chair ErgoTune has made to date. The new SmartFlex Pro Lumbar Support is a game-changer – it fits the natural curvature of my spine like a glove, allowing my back to feel supported in both the upright and reclined positions.
The height and depth of the seat pan are also adjustable, allowing you to get the perfect fit.
The Vesby also features what ErgoTune calls “SyncTilt Armrest,” which is designed to adapt seamlessly to your every move. It is width adjustable (catering to both broad and narrow shoulders) and height adjustable for users of varying heights.
For example, the armrests now tilt in synchronisation with the backrest when the chair is reclined, providing continuous arms support.
Furthermore, the armrests pivot 360 degrees, allowing them to accommodate a wide variety of use cases.
Interestingly, informational stickers are stuck on the underside of the armrests and serve as useful reminders about Vesby’s adjustability.
Most of the chair adjustments are now accessible via knobs that are positioned just beneath the seat, making chair control much more intuitive. For example, the deepest knob controls the seat depth, the middle knob reclines the chair, the front knob adjusts the seat height, and the bottom knob controls the recline tension. I found this to be incredibly streamlined and easy to use, and a huge improvement over the previous chairs.
Another new feature is Poppits, which are essentially attachments that allow the user to express themselves. At the time of writing, there are already over 300 Poppits to choose from, and ErgoTune is committing to introducing more over time.
What I found cool was the collaboration with local artists, such as these cat-inspired designs from Bedroom. I love supporting local artists and content creators, and I instantly fell in love with Vensroom’s designs—especially the Twitch-inspired “Drink Water” one.
However, the Poppits are not very secure, and I’ve accidentally knocked them off multiple times. Perhaps Ergotune can consider making them magnetic and pairing them with some sort of magnetic track.
Overall, I love the ErgoTune Vesby. It’s the best chair the brand has introduced—by far. It’s perfect for work and play.
I use the recline function of the Vesby frequently, literally kicking my feet back as I enjoy my favourite Netflix shows. I often procrastinate while doing work (such as writing this article) and usually intersperse my writing with Netflix/YouTube sessions. I love how I could go from work to play (and vice versa) at a literal turn of a knob with the Vesby – it’s ideal for my needs.
Conclusion – so the ErgoTune Vesby “shiok” or not?
ErgoTune states that the Vesby took three years to develop, and it shows – it is undoubtedly the best ergonomic chair ErgoTune has introduced to date. It smokes its competition in the sub-S$800 price point and gives pricier alternatives (such as the Herman Miller Aeron) a run for their money. The Vesby is admittedly substantially more expensive than the Joobie and the Supreme v3, but the enhanced aesthetic and useability make the premium well worth it. Ultimately, it is a more mature version of ErgoTune’s previous offerings and represents a significant step up for the brand.
Those interested in purchasing the ErgoTune Vesby can use the promo code “WAHSOSHIOK” to enjoy $5 off. The promo code is combinable with existing promotions, so the Vesby would cost just $794 after the discount code. The Vesby also comes with a 6-year warranty and free shipping and returns. Furthermore, it’s available in a variety of colourways – Black, Blue, Red, Green, and Brown. If you’re searching for an ergonomic chair that has your back (literally) in both work and play, then you should consider the ErgoTune Vesby.
