In this tailoring listicle, I hope to spotlight the noteworthy efforts of these Singaporean tailors whom I believe distinguish themselves from their peers in the industry. And don’t just take my word for it—all the tailors mentioned below have a Google rating of over 4.5/5.

The 11 tailors listed below are in ascending order of price. This is probably the most comprehensive guide on local tailors online – there are other listicles out there, but none whereby the writer personally tailored from all the mentioned tailors.

Update: I’m pleased to offer curated tailoring packages – partnering with some of the below-mentioned tailors – on The Shiok Shop. If you’re looking for bang-for-buck deals, do check out the webstore.

Tailors Under $400:

The “affordable tailor” segment is by far the most saturated space in the local tailoring industry. Unfortunately, most of these tailors often deliver sub-par products and are staffed by inexperienced part-timers. For more on what to look out for when buying a suit, read my tailoring guide here. I’ve been to most of these affordable tailors in Singapore and have shortlisted three based on my experience.

1) Mohan’s Custom Tailors

There’s no shortage of affordable tailors in Orchard – there are probably over a dozen in Far East Plaza alone. Having been situated at Far East Plaza since the shopping mall opened in 1982, Mohan’s stands out from the many tailors there with its rich history and experience.

Google Rating: 4.9/5

Basted Fitting: Depends. Mohan’s starts with a muslin fit, and depending on whether the muslin fit is satisfactory, there may or may not be a basted fit. A Muslin fit is similar to a basted fitting, with the difference being that while a basted fitting uses the cloth you chose, a muslin-fitting garment is often fashioned out of a cheaper material. Tailors sometimes use muslin fitting to save costs and wastage.

Lead time: 3-5 weeks

My opinion: In the local tailoring scene, Mohan’s brand is recognisable, with Mr Max Mohan being somewhat of an icon. The government (more specifically, Gov.sg) even did an entire episode on Max Mohan and his work. I may be wrong, but I can’t think of another tailor in Singapore that was the feature of a government-sponsored documentary that aired on national television. Like most of the older tailors – and unlike most affordable tailors – production for its garments is done in-house locally, overseen by master tailor Mr Koh (who also appears in the aforementioned video). Overall, I believe Mohan’s Custom Tailors is a great value proposition, given that suits start at a mere $375. Mohan’s has developed a healthy brand reputation over the decades, and after experiencing its tailoring, it was easy for me to see why it has not only survived but thrived. You can’t go wrong with Mohan’s if you’re looking for a no-frills experience for your first suit.

Price: Suits at Mohan’s start from $375. For my readers, Mohan’s offers a free shirt with every suit purchase (worth $85). Quote “WAHSOSHIOK” when making your appointment, or flash this post while at the store to enjoy the complimentary shirt.

Recommended: While suits at Mohan’s technically start at $375, that’s bottom-of-the-barrel stuff. I recommend going for at least the $450 half-canvassed mixed wool suit, which comes with a free polyester cotton shirt. For those looking for better material (important if you’re planning on wearing the suit/shirt frequently), my advice would be to go for the $650 half-canvassed full wool suit, with a free full cotton shirt included. The $200 increment may be substantial, but it is worth it.

Location: 14 Scotts Road, #02-73 Far East Plaza, Singapore 228213

Reviews: I reviewed my experience at Mohan’s Custom Tailors here, and the suit and shirt I got here. I also reviewed a single-breasted suit (pictured above) from Mohan’s here.

The Shiok Shop: Curated package deals from Mohan’s can be found here. In particular, I recommend the $900 Full Canvassed Reda Suit package and the $750 Back to Office package.

2) Ehkay Corner Tailors

Based in Orchard Plaza, Ehkay Corner Tailors has been offering great affordable suiting options since the 1980s.

Google Rating: 4.9/5

Basted Fitting: No, but they do a Muslin fit.

Lead time: 2-4 weeks

My opinion: Despite its affordable price point, Ehkay Corner Tailors ticks many boxes. Unlike the majority of affordable tailors, Dinesh and his wife Hina have been managing Ehkay Corner since the 1980s – that’s four decades of experience. In addition, Ehkay Corner boasts a local production with all garments produced in its in-house workshop, which translates to higher speed and quality control. Furthermore, Ehkay’s prices are affordable, and Dinesh’s service standard is laudable. Lastly, Ehkay Corner also offers affordable rental services, so if you only have a temporary need for a suit (e.g. groomsmen, prom, etc), that could be an option too. Its rental prices are for 72 hours, making it relatively better value than other tailors in Singapore that mostly rent for a day. Overall, I would say that Ehkay Corner is one of the best affordable tailors in Orchard.

Price: Suits at Ehkay Corner start from $380. For my readers, Ehkay Corner is offering a 10% discount on all purchases. Quote “WAHSOSHIOK” or flash this post to enjoy the discount. Readers can also get 5% off rental services.

Recommended: I recommend going for the mixed-wool $342 2-piece suit – it’s a great starting point, especially given its half-canvassed construction. For weddings, you can consider the $888 tuxedo set, which is inclusive of a 2-piece tuxedo suit, a tuxedo shirt, a cummerbund, and accessories such as a bow tie and pocket square. Ehkay is also currently running a promotion on premium fabrics (Reda, Holland & Sherry, etc), with suits starting from just $780. Ehkay’s $85 shirts and $112 pants are bang-for-buck options too. Readers can also rent a two-piece suit at $114 or a tuxedo set at $166. Prices stated are after the aforementioned discount.

Location: #01-57 & #01-01 Orchard Plaza, 150 Orchard Road Singapore 238841

Review: I reviewed my experience at Ehkay Corner Tailors here, and the tuxedo I got here. I also reviewed a three-piece suit here, a maroon double-breasted suit here, and the blue stretchy suit (pictured above) here.

The Shiok Shop: Curated package deals from Ehkay Corner can be found here. In particular, I recommend the $580 Three-piece Suit + Shirt package, as well as the $980 Tuxedo Suit package.

3) Suit Commune

If you prefer a younger, more fashion-forward tailor, consider Suit Commune.

Google Rating: 4.9/5

Basted fitting: Yes

Lead time: 4-6 weeks.

My opinion: Suit Commune sets itself apart by incorporating a basted fitting session for all its clients, regardless of the price of the suit. As such, the fit of the resulting garments is substantially better than other youngish tailors. Furthermore, Suit Commune is fashion-forward and fresh – Priscilla (pictured above) has a background in design, and it shows in her styling advice. If you’re not great at fashion, it’s better to approach a tailor that focuses more on style consultancy, such as Suit Commune. Priscilla is also one of the rare female tailors locally, making her a viable option for females seeking a power suit. Plenty of customisation options are available too, so don’t be afraid to approach Suit Commune for one-piece collar shirts, Gurkha trousers, or double-breasted suits. Oh yes – Arden Teal shares the same showroom as Suit Commune, so you can get a pair of dress shoes there too.

Price: Suits at Suit Commune start from $349, with bundle deals starting from $799. For my readers, Suit Commune is offering a free Arden Teal polo tee (worth $49) with a minimum spending of $599. Quote “WAHSOSHIOK” while making your appointment to enjoy the offer.

Recommended: Although prices at Suit Commune technically start at $349, those are for stiff polyester fabrics that I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy. Instead, I recommend going for the $599 half-canvassed wool blend suits, or the $1399 full-canvassed 100% wool European Fabric bundle deal for those seeking to wear the suit often.

Location: #02-16 Tampines North Dr. 1, T-Space, Singapore 528559

Review: I reviewed my experience with Suit Commune here, and the fit and workmanship of the eventual suit here.

Tailors Under $700:

At the $600 price point, the quality of the garments (fabric or construction) or the customer experience noticeably improves.

4) The Suited Label

Though affordable and relatively new, The Suited Label has an in-house production, which sets it apart from most of its peers.

Google Rating: 5/5

Basted Fitting: No.

Lead time: 4-6 weeks

My opinion: My experience at The Suited Label impressed me. Evan (pictured above) provides the styling advice to the customer while his mum oversees backend production. As a result, The Suited Label appears to be a perfect blend of youth and experience, with prices being very affordable too. Its in-house production translates to increased consistency and quality, allowing it to offer enhanced sartorial options (such as the Neapolitan shoulder, Milanese buttonhole, collar felt trimmings, etc). It also means that alterations can be made on the spot. And given that all its suits are half-canvassed, I would say that The Suited Label offers good value propositions. The fit and workmanship are also great, with ample attention to detail – it’s no wonder that The Suited Label also has a perfect Google rating. Lastly, fitting shoes for CustomWelt are also available in the showroom.

Price: Suits at The Suited Label currently start from $599. Just for my readers, The Suited Label is offering a free shirt (worth $138) with a minimum purchase of $599. Simply quote “WAHSOSHIOK” while making your appointment, or show this article in-store

Recommended: Those on a budget can consider the mixed-wool 2-piece half-canvassed suit for $599. Those with a larger budget can opt for a 2-piece half-canvassed suit from “branded’ European fabrics (such as the VBC suit above) for $999. Remember to quote “WAHSOSHIOK” for the free shirt!

Location: 14 Scotts Rd, #02-54 Far East Plaza, Singapore 228213

Reviews: I reviewed my experience at The Suited Label here, the fit and workmanship of the eventual Reda suit (pictured above) here, and my most recent VBC wool linen suit commission here.

5) Gentlemen’s Pursuit

Gentlemen’s Pursuit is the newest kid on the block, having launched just last December. As such, it’s offering tantalising launch promotions that are hard to beat.

Google Rating: 5/5

Basted fitting: No.

Lead time: 4-5 weeks.

My opinion: Although Gentlemen’s Pursuit is new, JJ has been in the industry for years, having previously co-founded another tailoring brand. As such, JJ is not only experienced in offering style advice but also in measurement and fitting. That being said, the best aspect of Gentlemen’s Pursuit currently is its aggressive pricing and promotions. At $588, one can get a half-canvassed mixed wool suit with a shirt or a half-canvassed VBC Perrenial/Sunny Season suit with a shirt for $788. That’s a steal – I think that’s the lowest price locally for a VBC suit and shirt. JJ explains that the uber-attractive price point is a strategy to rapidly gain market share, so I would take advantage of these low prices while they last. Despite the bargain prices and a lack of basted fitting, the suits from Gentlemen’s Pursuit fit great (see image below) with a modern, slim fit cut, which explains its perfect Google rating. Lastly, fitting shoes for CustomWelt are also available at Gentlemen’s Pursuit.

Price: A 2-piece mixed wool suit (half-canvassed) at Gentlemen’s Pursuit starts from $688, with 100% wool European fabrics (VBC, Drago, etc.) starting from $888. For my readers, Gentlemen’s Pursuit is offering a $100 discount for 2-piece suits, a $200 discount for 3-piece suits, and a free shirt (worth $108) with every suit purchase. Quote “WAHSOSHIOK” while making your appointment to enjoy this (frankly fantastic) deal.

Recommended: If you’re on a budget, the $588 half-canvassed mixed wool suit (like my brown suit) is a great way to try out the brand. However, I believe the true steal is the $788 half-canvassed 100% European wool suits (I recommend VBC Perrenial) – it’s the cheapest price you can find in Singapore for a VBC suit.

Location: 1 Genting Link, #08-01A, Singapore 349518

Review: I reviewed my experience with Gentlemen’s Pursuit here, as well as the fit and finish of the resulting suit here. I also reviewed a tuxedo rental from them here.

6) The Gentlemen’s Atelier

A mainstay in the wedding industry, The Gentlemen’s Atelier has been serving clients since 2018.

Google Rating: 5/5

Basted Fitting: Yes – two!

Lead time: 4-6 weeks

My opinion: Nick has been in the industry for over five years now, and in that time he has carved out a reputation for himself in the wedding scene, often delivering unique and striking garments. In addition to serving eye-catching designs, the Gentlemen’s Atelier boasts a local production with good fit and finish. And despite featuring a half-canvassed construction, the suits from Gentlemen’s Atelier are priced reasonably, with many customisation options. It is also one of the few affordable tailors that offer not one but two basted fitting sessions – virtually unheard of at this price point. With a perfect Google rating and a convenient location in the heart of Chinatown, The Gentlemen’s Atelier would fit the bill for those seeking more fashion-forward garments. CustomWelt fitting shoes are also available at The Gentlemen’s Atelier.

Price: Suits at The Gentlemen’s Atelier start from $599. Just for my readers, The Gentlemen’s Atelier is offering a 10% discount on all suiting purchases (not applicable on add-ons and additional charges). Simply make your appointment via this booking link here to enjoy the discount.

Recommended: Those on a budget can consider the $539 Tecron half-canvassed suits for weddings. For those with a little more to spend and are looking to reuse the suit, I highly suggest going for the $1304 fully canvassed VBC/Drago 100% wool suits—they will last you for years. Prices are after the abovementioned discount.

Location: 41 Temple Street, #03-01, Singapore 058586

Review: I reviewed my experience at The Gentlemen’s Atelier here, and the fit and workmanship of the eventual grey suit (pictured above) here.

7) Perfect Attire

If you work around the CBD and require formal clothing, you should visit Perfect Attire.

Google Rating: 4.8/5

Basted fitting: Yes.

Lead time: 4-6 weeks

My opinion: Run by the wife-husband duo Tulsi (pictured above) and Shriram, Perfect Attire provides great craftsmanship for the money. Even on its entry-level $650 house fabric suit, the suit comes half-canvassed, the buttons are shanked, buttonholes are hand-sewn, pick stitching is available, and jacket cuffs are functional. Furthermore, all Perfect Attire’s garments are made in-house, with the canvassing done by hand – consistency and quality control are top-notch. The fit is great as well, with at least one baste fitting process implemented to perfect the fit. Its prices are also reasonable, especially considering Perfect Attire is a proper tailor with a baste fitting. Perfect Attire is conveniently located in the CBD, as is the icing on the cake, so you can easily pop by after work. If you’re looking for tailored officewear, look no further than Perfect Attire.

Price: A 2-piece half-canvassed suit from Perfect Attire starts from $650, while a full-canvassed “branded” suit (VBC) starts from $1200. Just for readers, Perfect Attire is offering a free shirt (worth $150) with any suit purchase. Simply quote “WAHSOSHIOK” whilst booking the appointment or flash this post at the showroom to enjoy the discount.

Recommended: Those looking for an affordable business suit can consider the half-canvassed mixed wool House Premium suit, which costs $850. If you have a tad more spending power, then opt for the full-canvassed VBC Perennial (100% merino wool) suit, which costs $1200.

Location: Oxley Tower Unit 03-38, 138 Robinson Road, Singapore 068906. Interested customers are recommended to book an appointment online before dropping by.

Review: I reviewed my experience with Perfect Attire here, and the fit and workmanship of the resulting suit here. I also reviewed a waistcoat-led ensemble here and my latest navy suit (pictured above) here.

The Shiok Shop: Curated package deals from Perfect Attire can be found here. In particular, I recommend the $1500 Full Canvassed Drago Full Wool Suit + Shirt package and the $720 Back to Work package.

Tailors Under $1000:

For $1000, one begins to appreciate the product and the experience of getting tailored.

8) Edit Suits Co.

Basted fitting can be great, but the multiple fittings required can sometimes be a hassle. For those who don’t have the time to drop by for numerous fittings but still want a quality suit that doesn’t break the bank, Edit Suits is your answer.

Google Rating: 4.7/5

Basted fitting: No, though they do have fitting garments for you to try on.

Lead time: 4-6 weeks.

My opinion: As compared to most tailors at this price point, there is no basted fitting process with Edit Suits – though that is not necessarily a bad thing. With the other tailors, I had to drop by at least 4 times (measurement, 2 fittings, final collection) – not everyone has the time for that. Furthermore, Edit Suits features an integrated production, so one can expect a high level of consistency and stringent quality control. Its cut is developed for the modern professional, making it a breath of fresh air from the style of older, more established tailors. It is also popular in the wedding scene, with many grooms opting for a 3-piece suit from Edit Suits. Lastly, suits from Edit Suits start at an affordable $749, with its canvassed VBC suits starting at just $1099. Overall, if you’re a busy professional who does not have the time (or patience) to drop by a tailor multiple times, Edit Suits delivers quality suits at affordable prices with minimum hassle.

Price: A 2-piece house fabric suit at Edit Suits starts from $749, with canvassed premium suits (VBC, Loro Piana, Dormeuil, etc) starting from $1099. Shirts start from $129. Just for my readers, Edit Suits is running a promotion that entitles readers to a free house fabric shirt (worth S$149) for every suit order (min. spend $1099). Simply quote WSS_shirt_2024 while booking your appointment or flash this article in-store.

Recommended: I recommend opting for the $1099 VBC/Reda suit, which comes with a free shirt. I’ve tailored both VBC and Reda outfits from Edit Suits, and I’m a huge fan of the fabrics. Those with a tad more budget can also opt for the $1599 Loro Piana suit.

Location: 35A Duxton Road, Level 2, Singapore 089499. Interested customers can book their appointments here, and choose “Wah so Shiok” as the referral option when prompted to enjoy the free shirt.

Review: I reviewed my experience at Edit Suits Co. here, and the fit and workmanship of its garments here. I did a recent review of a Loro Piana suit with Edit Suits’ new outfitters here. I also reviewed its online QuickMeasure shirting process here, as well as a smart casual look (pictured above) here.

9) Sors Studio

Sors Studio is really interesting as the owner, Gary, does not see himself as a tailor but as an image consultant. While most tailors simply alter the fit to the individual, Gary goes one step further by tailoring (pun intended) his style advice for each client.

Google Rating: 4.7/5

Basted fitting: Yes, usually 2.

Lead time: 4-5 weeks.

My opinion: If you’re clueless about fashion, go to Gary at Sors Studio. Over there, you get tailored clothing and invaluable styling advice. In essence, you’re paying not just for the product but for a makeover as well. Gary (pictured above) regularly searches for unique fabrics from suppliers and buys a small batch of fabric if he sees something he likes. From custom linings to uniquely patterned vests, these are designs that you won’t see at other tailors. In addition, Sors Studio’s production is local, which should translate to a higher level of consistency. Gary also regularly experiments with different customisation options, with one of the most extensive ones I’ve experienced. Currently, its suits are half-canvassed, and mother-of-pearl/horn buttons come standard on shirts/suits respectively. Overall, if looking good and standing out is your top priority, then Sors Studio is the perfect place for you.

Price: A 2-piece mixed wool suit (half-canvassed) at Sors Studio starts from $780, while a vest starts from $240. Shirts start from $170 and trousers start from $150.

Recommended: I recommend the $780 mixed-wool suits and the $240 vests. For the more adventurous, Gary also makes denim/cotton suits. If you’re looking for intriguing office shirts, the $170 shirts will make you stand out at work. I love the designs of Sors Studio—they are stunning and surprisingly affordable. However, the true value comes not from the clothing but from Gary’s styling advice. Do note that appointments are heavily preferred.

Location: 34 Arab Street #02-01 Singapore 199733.

10) HST Tailors

Hwa Seng Textiles (HST) was established in 1960 and is the oldest tailor on this list. In terms of expertise and experience, the people at HST Tailors have been practising their craft for a very, very long time.

Google Rating: 4.7/5

Basted fitting: Yes, usually 2.

Lead time: 4-5 weeks.

My opinion: I’ve been to over 30 tailors in Singapore, but HST left the deepest first impression. Step into the shop, and you will be greeted by rows upon rows of fabrics (see the first image of this article). Unlike other tailoring showrooms where you can only feel the fabric in little booklets, the staff at HST will bring down the entire roll of fabric for you to see, touch, and drape against your body. HST’s fabrics are of great quality – HST started as a purveyor of textiles, and still supplies fabrics to tailors locally today, some of whom are on this list. In addition, the staff are very experienced, chief of which is Ye Shifu (pictured above), who has been in the industry for almost 60 years. Knowing that Shifu nitpicked over the fit of the garment put me straight at ease. HST’s attention to detail, as well as the sheer amount of customisation choices available, was highly impressive, and a clear step up from some of the more affordable tailors mentioned above.

Price: Readers can enjoy an exclusive 10% discount on all HST products. After the discount, a 2-piece fully canvassed mixed-wool suit from HST would start at just $855. Simply quote “WAHSOSHIOK” when booking your appointment or flash this post at the showroom to enjoy the discount.

Recommended: I recommend the $855 mixed wool fully canvassed 2-piece suit – it’s surprisingly affordable for a fully canvassed suit, especially considering the experience and expertise that HST possesses. Those looking for “branded” fabrics can consider the $1350 VBC Revenge (Super 150s) fully canvassed 2-piece suit. In a surprisingly modern twist, HST also offers bespoke denim jeans, which I recommend if you’re looking for a more casual look.

Location: #07-12 Gemini@Sims, No 2 Sims Close, Singapore 387298.

Review: I reviewed my experience with Sors Studio here, and the fit and style of the resulting garments here. I also reviewed its suit jacket here and did a smart casual outfit here. I reviewed my latest three-piece suit from Sors Studio here.

Tailors above $1000:

For $1000+, one begins to experience tailoring the way it’s meant to be experienced. Sure, the below-mentioned tailors are still some way off Saville Row (literally and figuratively), but I would say that they are the closest alternatives you can visit locally without breaking the bank.

11) Meiko Tailor

Located within the luxurious premises of the Pan Pacific Hotel, Meiko Tailor pays homage to the art of tailoring. Run by Head Tailor Uncle Chung – who has over 50 years of experience in tailoring – Meiko Tailor is perhaps the personification of the maxim ‘old is gold’.

Google Rating: 4.8/5

Basted fitting: Yes, usually 2.

Lead time: 2-4 weeks. Surcharge may apply for urgent orders (<2 weeks), or during peak periods.

Meiko Tailor in singapore for custom suit and alterations
With Uncle Chung of Meiko Tailor.

My opinion: Out of all the tailors mentioned in this listicle, Meiko Tailor is the only true bespoke tailoring option. A tailor is considered bespoke when he specialises in the drafting, cutting, and fitting the garments – all of which Uncle Chung oversees for every customer. There’s no template used at Meiko Tailor, as every pattern is drafted from scratch. The experience of Uncle Chung (who started as a tailor even before my parents were born) shone through during my experience at Meiko Tailor. In addition, Meiko Tailor boasts a local in-house production. Not only does that translate to more stringent quality control and greater consistency (Uncle Chung personally inspects every finished garment), but it also allows Meiko Tailor to offer one of the shortest lead times among bespoke tailors at just 2-4 weeks. If you’re looking for a bona fide bespoke tailor or simply need a well-crafted suit in a jiffy, I highly recommend paying Meiko Tailor a visit.

Price: A 2-piece fully canvassed wool blend suit (poly-wool mix) starts from $1890.

Recommended: I highly recommend the $1890 house-fabric suits—I chose them for my initial red suit. For those looking for more breathable fabrics, I recommend the $2390 Irish linen suit, perfect for Singapore’s humid weather.

Location: 7 Raffles Blvd, #02-01 The Pan Pacific, Singapore 039595

Review: I reviewed my experience at Meiko Tailor here, and the fit/craftsmanship of the eventual suit here. I also reviewed a linen suit and a sports jacket here, a more casual ensemble here, and a smart casual outfit here. More recently, I reviewed a vintage Ermenegildo Zegna suit here.

Conclusion:

I hope that this list of best tailors in Singapore has been useful. In many ways, this is my definitive recommendation for tailors in Singapore. I have tailored at all the aforementioned tailors, and my experiences have been nothing short of positive. I made sure to include tailors across a wide variety of price ranges, too, so there’s something for everyone here.

Tailoring is a craft – let’s appreciate the painstaking effort local tailors put into their products.

Aside from the individual promotions at each tailor, consider the curated tailoring packages listed on The Shiok Store. The Shiok Shop is the first to offer curated tailoring packages online, just as Wah So Shiok was – and still is – the first to do personal reviews of affordable tailors. Redemption is fuss-free: an email invoice will be sent to you after purchase. Simply book an appointment with the respective tailors stating the package you bought, and show the invoice while in-store if necessary.
